Oberammergau wood carving shop

The village of Oberammergau only has a population of around 5500 but is very rich in history. Almost every other shop in town sells their own wood carvings, mainly nativities, crucifixes and Christmas decor, due to the fact that there’s a wood carving college in the village.

Oberammergau house with Lüftlmalerei

Pretty much every house has beautiful „Lüftlmalerei“ (a kind of trompe l‘oeuil painting), most well known amongst them some houses sporting scenes from Grimm‘s fairy tales „Little Red Riding Hood“, „Hänsel & Gretel“, „The Town Musicians of Bremen“ and „The Wolf and the Seven Young Goats“
